About

York Montessori Academy is a co-educational Montessori School, from Pre-Casa to Sr. kindergarten, situated in the heart of a growing community. The school offers a program based on well-known philosophies and the Montessori teaching methodology. We aim to provide a happy, caring, and challenging environment for students throughout their school lives. Montessori-based academic programs and extra-curricular activities foster an enjoyment of learning and a concrete foundation for tertiary education and life beyond school. Students learn in a caring discipline classroom environment with sequenced activities and structured programs through five basic subjects: Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language, and Culture. Students progress at their own pace with gentle guidance from their trained Montessori teacher.

Health & Safety

Safety Information

The health and safety of all teachers and students are extremely important to YMPS. YMPS meets and strives to exceed all health and safety requirements of the Ministry of Education and the Health Department. We follow all policies and procedures recommended by the health department. Students can rest in the afternoon or are allowed quiet time if they choose not to nap. This information is also presented in our Student/Parent Handbook.

Sanitation Practices

In Practical Life, students learn about the routines of everyday life. To encourage initiative and responsibility, students take part in the classroom’s daily clean-up. The teachers sterilize materials in the classroom frequently, and the classrooms are kept tidy daily. This participation increases the self-esteem of each student.

Allergy Management

Our School is a peanut-free zone. Parents/Guardians are always requested not to send any nut products to the school. If the student has allergies, parents must provide a completed Anaphylactic Allergy Form provided by the school, detailing the allergy and any required medications. The School will not provide any kind of medication (EPI-Pens, inhalers).

Immunization Requirements

Before a student’s admission, Parents/Guardians must provide a completed immunization record of the student. The form given in the registration package must also be completed.

Medication Policies

If a student has any sickness, they may not attend the School until they completely recover. If a student is at the School with a fever above 99°F, an upset stomach, and/or diarrhea, arrangements must be made within half an hour to pick him/her up.

Any student with a communicable sickness (chicken pox, Hand, foot mouth disease, pink eye, whooping cough, etc) must stay home for 7-10 days. This procedure is made for the safety of other students and staff who should not be exposed to diseases.

If a student is taking any medication (prescription or non-prescription), it must be administered to the student by School staff. Any medications found with students will be taken away by the teachers. Parents/Guardians will be informed immediately. The School must be provided with:

  • A written note explaining the reason for the medicine, duration, and quantity.
  • The medicine (as we do not provide any medication for health reasons) is in its original container with the student’s name, name of the medication, dosage, date of purchase, and instructions for storage and administration.
  • Written permission with a dated signature on or before the day of administering the medication.
